Gwanak District Office to Hold Monthly Campaigns to Reduce Single-Use Products

Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) is expanding resource circulation policies that can be practiced in daily life and is making every effort to create a "Clean Living Space Gwanak."

This year, the district plans to actively reduce the use of single-use products, starting with the public sector and expanding to the private sector, with the goal of fostering an eco-friendly culture shared by both public and private entities.

To continuously enforce the "ban on the use and entry of single-use products" at the district office building, the district has encouraged the participation of all employees through daily announcements and regular training sessions.

Additionally, the district has implemented various measures to raise awareness and lay the foundation for reducing single-use products, such as installing tumbler washing machines in restrooms on each floor of the office building, operating an eco-friendly cafe with a reusable cup deposit system, and placing single-use cup storage racks and informational banners at the building entrances.

As a result, currently, 95% of Gwanak-gu employees have tumblers at their desks, and approximately 130,000 reusable containers were used at a total of 10 local events and festivals held over the two years from 2023 to 2024.

Building on this progress, the district plans to conduct a campaign to reduce single-use products in the office building at least once a month starting this year, aiming to increase employee awareness and participation.

For the private sector, the district will also strengthen customized promotional efforts to help people easily understand the frequently changing regulations on single-use products.

Through online channels such as Gwanak-gu's social media and website, the district will provide residents with information on how to practice resource circulation and details about regulations. Separate guides will be created and distributed to businesses to encourage voluntary participation.

In particular, to achieve the goal of a "zero single-use product office building" this year, the district will actively encourage the use of reusable products by introducing a new "reusable container rental system," which will be promoted at local festivals and events.

Any employee can easily apply online to borrow reusable containers, along with eco-friendly cleaning tools and guides, making it simple and convenient to participate in eco-friendly practices from use and cleaning to returning the containers.

District Mayor Park Junhee stated, "Starting with the office building, we will continue to expand the culture of reducing single-use products to all aspects of daily life, so that residents can experience and practice resource circulation in their everyday routines. We will do our best to create a clean living space in Gwanak together with our residents."
