First Joint Visit to Ukraine by Leaders of Four Countries
On May 10 (local time), AP and other news outlets reported that the leaders of four countries? the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Poland? visited Kyiv, Ukraine, and called for a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
According to the reports, the leaders of the four countries arrived at Kyiv train station and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This visit marks the first time that the leaders of these four countries have visited Ukraine together. It was also the first visit to Ukraine by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz since taking office.
Together with U.S. President Donald Trump, they are urging Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine.
In a joint statement, they said, "We reiterate our support for President Trump's call for a peace agreement and urge Russia to cease actions that hinder efforts to secure lasting peace." They added, "Together with the United States, we call on Russia to agree to a complete and unconditional 30-day ceasefire to create space for talks toward a just and lasting peace."
