Meals Prepared by Outside Provider Served at School
Health Authorities Conducting Epidemiological Investigation
At an elementary school in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, more than 100 students and staff members have shown symptoms suspected to be food poisoning, prompting health authorities to launch an epidemiological investigation.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and other sources on May 10, a report was filed that students at this school began exhibiting symptoms suspected to be food poisoning, such as diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and fever, starting on the evening of May 8. So far, more than 100 students and staff members have been identified as showing these symptoms. As the school and the Office of Education have been conducting a full-scale survey since the previous day, the number could increase further.
It has been reported that the school has been serving meals prepared by an outside provider in the gymnasium, as the building with the cafeteria was closed due to safety concerns. Previously, in February, when safety concerns were raised about one of the school buildings, the start of the semester was postponed to March 10.
