As of December 2024, the proportion of residents aged 65 and over in Busan stands at 23.9% of the total population, making it the first among the eight major metropolitan cities in Korea to enter a "super-aged society." As a result, issues such as social isolation and health management among the senior population, as well as the resulting social burdens, are more pronounced in Busan than in other large cities.

Since April 2024, the National Health Insurance Service has been implementing the Active Senior Project, collaborating with four nursing facilities in Busan and the Institute of Senior Life Science. The project supports various cognitive and health programs for residents, including art therapy, depression-relief programs, and cooking experiences.

Cho Junhee, the regional head, stated, "We will continue to strengthen cooperation with the local community and consistently contribute to supporting an active later life for seniors and alleviating social isolation."
