Korea Compassion, the Korean branch of the international child development organization, announced on May 9 that it will launch the "2025 Well Club Campaign" to help children in countries suffering from water shortages.
The "Well Club Campaign" is a global clean water support project that Korea Compassion has been running since 2021. It aims to provide clean water to children and local residents in countries facing water scarcity. Donations collected through this campaign will be used to support water supply and sanitation improvement projects in the Burkina Faso region of Africa.
Currently, Burkina Faso is experiencing more than 2.5 million internally displaced people due to desertification and conflict. As a result, existing water facilities are insufficient to meet the demand. Many children are at risk of waterborne diseases, and their education and daily lives are severely affected as they are unable to attend school because they have to travel long distances to fetch water.
Through the "2025 Well Club Campaign," Korea Compassion plans to install mechanized borehole wells and washbasins for a total of 6,429 people at eight child centers in Burkina Faso. In addition, the organization will work to create a sustainable water environment by building water storage tanks and public water supply points. Long-term support will also include planting fruit tree saplings for future generations and providing hygiene and health education for local residents.
This year, actress Lee Yeonhee will join the Well Club Campaign to encourage greater public interest and participation. Lee Yeonhee stated, "I deeply resonate with the values pursued by Korea Compassion, which is why I decided to join this project," and added, "I hope that children who struggle even to find a single cup of drinking water will be able to dream of a better future thanks to our warm interest."
The "2025 Well Club Campaign" offers two ways to participate: one-time donations and regular monthly donations. The first 500 donors who sign up for regular donations of at least 20,000 KRW or a one-time donation of at least 100,000 KRW will receive two limited-edition keyrings, created in collaboration between the lifestyle design brand Oroliday and the Well Club. The keyrings feature the smiling well bucket character "WELL DONE" and Oroliday's signature "Motnaniz" triplets. "WELL DONE" symbolizes both "the well is completed" and "well done," expressing the value of supporting the well project.
Suh Jungin, CEO of Korea Compassion, stated, "Thanks to the support of many people, the Well Club Campaign, which started with just three wells, is now operating more than 21 wells." He added, "We ask for your continued interest and participation so that the children of Burkina Faso, whose everyday lives are threatened by severe water shortages, can grow up in a safer environment."
