On this day, Gwangju Shinsegae donated 70 million won to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation. The scholarship funds will be used to support students who are doing their best in their studies despite challenging circumstances.
In addition, when combining the amounts donated to the Seogu Scholarship Foundation, Roksoo Scholarship Association, Hanmaeum Scholarship Foundation, Mudol Scholarship Foundation, and Seobu Market, the total amount delivered to local talent reaches 130 million won.
The cumulative amount Gwangju Shinsegae has delivered to regional talent under the name of the Hope Scholarship has surpassed 3.4 billion won. Launched in 1995 as a local corporation to promote mutual growth with the community, Gwangju Shinsegae has participated in various social contribution activities, including the Hope Scholarship and the Hope Santa Expedition.
Especially this year, to intensively support important educational programs for local youth to grow into future talent, Gwangju Shinsegae established the 'With Shinsegae' Hope Scholarship. The With Shinsegae Hope Scholarship is a social contribution program that selects five first-year high school students each year and provides a total of 9 million won over three years.
Students will use the scholarship to take online classes and purchase learning programs. Gwangju Shinsegae expects that, through the With Shinsegae Hope Scholarship, it will be able to provide ongoing, substantial educational support, rather than just one-time financial assistance.
Gwangju Shinsegae, which received an A grade for two consecutive years in 2024 and 2023 from the Korea ESG Standards Institute, has continuously carried out social contribution activities to promote mutual growth with the local community.
To give opportunities to young aspiring artists in the region, Gwangju Shinsegae held the Gwangju Student Art Competition again this year, following 2024. Under the name 'Hope Santa Expedition,' gifts were delivered to children from vulnerable groups in the Seogu district. At the end of the year, the company has also consistently held events such as the 'Kimchi of Love Delivery Ceremony.'
Lee Donghun, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, stated, "As a local corporation, Gwangju Shinsegae is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year thanks to the interest and support of the local community," and added, "We ask for your continued interest so that Gwangju Shinsegae can continue to take the lead in practicing love for the community for the next 30 years as well."
