Sancheong County Achieves First Place in Six Events at the 64th Gyeongnam Provincial Sports Festival

Sancheong County in Gyeongnam achieved remarkable results by taking first place in six events at the Provincial Sports Festival.

According to Sancheong County on May 8, the county secured first place in six events?ssireum, soft tennis, table tennis, wrestling, bodybuilding, and tennis?at the 64th Gyeongnam Provincial Sports Festival, which was held in Jinju from May 2 to May 5.

In addition, the county took second place in badminton and park golf, third place in taekwondo, and fifth place in soccer, gateball, swimming, and basketball, achieving outstanding results in all events. This marks the highest ranking (5th place) in 57 years since the county ranked third among counties in 1968.

Sancheong County attributed these achievements to the expansion of the base of sports enthusiasts in each discipline and the improvement of sports infrastructure and facilities. The county also evaluated that delivering a message of hope through sports has helped support recovery from recent wildfire damage.

County Governor Lee Seunghwa stated, "This achievement will be a great source of strength for our residents, who are going through a difficult time due to the recent wildfires," and added, "We will continue to do our best to promote a healthy and vibrant sports culture."
