Mayor Lee Kangdeok: "We Will Build a Strong Tourism Brand Unique to Pohang for All Generations"

The Pohang city government reported that a total of 174,991 tourists visited Pohang over the four days from May 3 to May 6.

Pohang had previously ranked first in search growth rate in a domestic travel trend survey for the golden holiday by the digital travel platform Booking.com, and now, actual visitor numbers have further proven the nationwide interest in the city.

In particular, the number of tourists increased by about 12% in just four days compared to the Lunar New Year holiday (156,680 visitors over six days), solidifying Pohang’s reputation as a leading holiday destination.

During this holiday period, the number of visitors by attraction was as follows: Bogyeongsa Temple 45,373; Space Walk 33,188; Homigot Square 30,680; Japanese Residential Street 17,985, among others.

Because the holiday included both Children’s Day and Buddha’s Birthday, a wide range of visitors?from families on outings to middle-aged and older tourists seeking a leisurely schedule?brought energy to major attractions throughout Pohang.

Popular drama filming locations such as Cheongha Gongjin Market, Igari Anchor Observatory, and Yeonorangsaeonyeo Theme Park, all notable sites in “drama city Pohang,” also drew attention, with around 25,000 tourists visiting these spots.

During the holiday period, the city operated an emergency tourism response team, focusing on hygiene, safety, and fire prevention inspections at tourism businesses and information centers, and concentrated administrative resources on on-site response to create a pleasant and highly satisfying travel environment.

Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, “The increasing number of visitors to Pohang during every holiday is not a simple trend, but a sign that the charm of Pohang as a tourist city is deepening. We will further strengthen Pohang’s unique tourism brand with content that transcends seasons and attractions that appeal to both younger generations and families.”
