Gwangsan District decided to start operating its heatwave response facilities earlier than usual this year to prevent heat-related illnesses, instead of the usual period from May to September. Accordingly, the district completed inspections and maintenance of related facilities, including shade shelters and cooling fog systems, in April.
The facilities in operation include 208 shade shelters?188 fixed and 20 smart types?and cooling fog systems at three locations: Gwangju Songjeong Station, Ssangam Park, and Hanam Gyeongam Neighborhood Park. Cooling fog is a device that sprays tap water in a mist to lower the surrounding temperature.
A Gwangsan District official stated, "As a severe heatwave is forecast for this summer, we have accelerated our heatwave response efforts. We hope residents will minimize outdoor activities and make active use of these facilities to have a safe summer."
