Kim Moonsoo Says "Unification Poll Must Be Halted"... Kwon Seongdong Responds "Proceed as Planned"

Kwon Seongdong: "Preparing for the Possibility of No Unification Agreement"
Kim Moonsoo: "Exercising Priority over Party Affairs, Party Should Not Intervene"

Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, argued that the party should halt the planned member-only unification poll scheduled for the 7th. However, the party leadership stated that they would proceed as planned.

Kwon Seongdong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, spoke to reporters around 11 p.m. on the 6th in front of Kim's residence in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, saying, "The timing for the party member poll is extremely urgent," and added, "We believe it is necessary for party operations, so we will carry on as planned."

Kwon explained, "It would be ideal if we could reach a unification agreement with Kim tomorrow, but in case that does not happen, we want to confirm where party members stand."

Regarding the meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. on the 7th between Kim and Han Ducksoo, the former Prime Minister and independent presidential candidate, to discuss unification, Kwon said, "Although it's a bit late, it's a good decision," and added, "I hope they will present a concrete roadmap to achieve unification before the candidate registration period."

Earlier, Kim issued a statement declaring that he would exercise the presidential candidate's priority over party affairs and demanded the immediate suspension of the member survey. This is interpreted as a de facto warning to the party leadership, who are pressuring him for a swift unification against his wishes.

Kim emphasized, "The unnecessary poll announced for tomorrow is an act that undermines party unity and must be stopped immediately," and added, "The party leadership should no longer intervene in the unification process and must immediately cease all related activities. From this moment, the unification process will be led entirely by the presidential candidate."

Meanwhile, Kim suspended his campaign activities for the day. This move is seen as a response to the party leadership's increased pressure for unification with former Prime Minister Han.
