On the morning of May 6 at 11:00 AM, the Daegu City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea (Chairperson Heo So) held a press conference at the Kim Daejung Hall of the Daegu City Party headquarters to officially announce the launch of its presidential election campaign committee, introducing the lineup of the "Real Republic of Korea Daegu Election Committee" and outlining future strategies.
The newly launched Daegu City Party election committee announced its strategy to secure victory in the presidential election in Daegu by forming a grand coalition campaign committee. This committee includes more than 100 professionals and a wide range of figures from various sectors and civil society, including the general and standing campaign committee chairs.
Choi Yeonsook, former member of the People Power Party and the general election campaign committee chairperson of the Democratic Party Daegu City Party, is delivering a greeting.
Heo So, Chairperson of the Democratic Party Daegu City Party, Choi Yeonsook, former member of the People Power Party, and Hong Euirak, former Deputy Mayor of Daegu, were jointly appointed as general campaign committee chairs. Choi Yeonsook, a former member of the People Power Party, was recruited for her expertise as a medical and health professional who played a key role in Daegu's COVID-19 response, backed by 38 years of nursing experience. Hong Euirak, a former Democratic Party lawmaker, is a two-term National Assembly member representing Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and previously served as Daegu's Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs.
The standing campaign committee chairs include: Jeong Hangrae, retired Army Lieutenant General; Hwang Kyui, CEO of Return to Nature Life Science Research Institute; Lee Seungcheon, former chairperson of the Democratic Party Daegu City Party; Kim Jaehun, Professor Emeritus of Economics at Daegu University; Lee Jaedong, former president of the Daegu Bar Association; Choi Bongtae, managing attorney at Samil Law Firm; Kim Hyeongeun, former chairperson of the Democratic United Party Daegu City Party; and Jang Daejin, head of public relations and communications for the Democratic Party Daegu City Party, totaling eight individuals.
In addition, a total of more than 100 people?including experts, activists, and local representatives from various fields in Daegu such as the economy, legal, healthcare, security and defense, labor, education, youth, women, and civil society?have joined the campaign committee. This will enable the implementation of a field-oriented, citizen-participatory presidential election strategy.
Heo So, the general campaign committee chair, stated, "The attempt by the Yoon Sukyeol administration to declare emergency martial law was a shocking act that denied the Constitution and democracy. The upcoming presidential election on June 3 is a decisive opportunity to overcome this and restore national sovereignty and constitutional order. The Real Republic of Korea Daegu City Party Election Committee will make every effort to widely promote Lee Jaemyung?the only candidate from Daegu and Gyeongbuk prepared to revive Daegu's economy?to the public, and to communicate his firm vision and commitment to action."
Prior to the Daegu City Party campaign committee press conference, the 12 regional committees in Daegu held a party members' resolution meeting, reaffirming their determination to protect people's livelihoods and restore Daegu's economy together with candidate Lee Jaemyung, and solidifying their resolve for victory in the presidential election.
At 2:00 PM on the same day, the first meeting of the Real Republic of Korea Daegu City Party Election Committee was held, attended by Kim Minseok, standing co-chair of the central party campaign committee, as well as Choi Yeonsook, Hong Euirak, Heo So, and more than 150 standing and joint campaign committee members of the Daegu City Party.
The standing advisors to the Daegu City Party election committee are: Jeong Hak, former co-chair of the National Environmental Movement Union; Kim Boo-kyum, former Prime Minister; Lee Kangcheol, former Blue House Senior Secretary for Civil Society; Bae Handong, Professor Emeritus at Kyungpook National University; Yoon Deokhong, former Deputy Prime Minister for Education; Lee Jeongwoo, former Blue House Policy Chief; Lee Jaeyong, former Minister of Environment; Noh Jinchul, Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Kyungpook National University; Kim Sayul, former Chairperson of the National Balanced Development Committee; and Lim Daeyoon, former Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party?a total of 10 appointees. Four additional advisors are: Kwon Ohyeok, former Daegu City Party Chairperson; Song Pilkyung, former head of the Korean Dental Association for a Healthy Society; Chu Yeonchang, former Vice President of Incheon Port Terminal Management Corporation; and Jeong Poongyoung, former Director of the Daegu City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The general campaign headquarters directors are Kim Bokyung, Vice Chairperson of the Dalseong County Council in Daegu, and Lim Gyuhun, standing representative of the Basic Society Daegu Headquarters. Kim Hongseok, chief secretary of the Daegu City Party, was appointed as the head of the situation room.
Lee Seonghun, former standing auditor of Korea Real Estate Board, was appointed as head of the strategy advisory group; Choi Jeongam, former Seoul bureau chief of Maeil Shinmun, as head of public relations; and Oh Youngjun, member of the Daegu Buk-gu Council, as spokesperson.
