Recently, a South Korean national who was abducted by armed assailants in the Philippines was safely released after three days.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 5, the Korean national, who had been abducted by armed assailants in a vehicle near Nasugbu, close to Manila in the early morning of May 2, was secured by the Philippine police on the morning of this day. The individual is reported to be in good health.


The victim was abducted by a group of seven to ten armed individuals while traveling by car with four companions?Chinese and Filipino nationals?to go fishing. One member of the group was released by the kidnappers on the roadside and reported the incident to a nearby police station. The Chinese nationals who were abducted together were also reportedly released.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs activated its Overseas Korean Protection Task Force after receiving a report on the situation from the embassy on the day of the incident. An official from the ministry explained, "Immediately after becoming aware of the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines requested a prompt investigation from the local police and provided necessary consular assistance, such as contacting the victim's family."


The identities and motives of the kidnappers are still under investigation.
