"Candidate number 2, Moonsu Kim, will be listed on the final ballot"
"Unification negotiations are possible only through Kim's self-sacrificing decision"
Jae Won Kim, former Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party and current chief of staff for presidential candidate Moonsu Kim, stated, "Candidate Deoksoo Han has never paid even a single 1,000-won party membership fee to our party," adding, "I am confident that on the final ballot, it will be candidate number 2, Moonsu Kim, whose name will be listed."
On May 5, Jae Won Kim appeared on KBS and SBS Radio, saying, "To prevent any concerns among the public, candidates Moonsu Kim and Deoksoo Han will definitely unify their candidacies." He further explained, "At the very least, there will not be a situation in this presidential election where both candidates Kim and Han run simultaneously and ask voters to choose between them."
Jae Won Kim said, "The very nature of a unification negotiation depends on candidate Kim's self-sacrificing decision," and explained, "If candidate Kim does not withdraw through the unification negotiations, then those negotiations become meaningless." He continued, "If, by any chance, candidate Kim is ever in a situation where he must withdraw, that decision must be made directly by him," emphasizing, "The unification process should be conducted in a way that allows candidate Kim to reflect his own intentions and thoughts throughout the process."
He also stated, "Unification means the process by which multiple candidates become a single candidate, and that process must be led by candidate Kim." He added, "Since candidate Han's name will not appear on the ballot for this presidential election, there is no need to worry about that process." He reiterated, "Because candidate Kim is taking the lead in the unification process through a self-sacrificing decision, it is only right that he leads this unification effort."
When the SBS Radio host asked, "Even after unification with candidate Han, there is still Junseok Lee of the Reform Party. Will this proceed step by step, or will it be resolved in a single shot?" Jae Won Kim replied, "If by 'single shot' you mean immediate unification, it is highly unlikely right now," explaining, "This is because candidate Lee of the Reform Party is likely to enter unification talks only at the very end of the presidential race. Furthermore, he has in fact been refusing unification for quite some time already."
Jae Won Kim was also asked whether former party leader Donghoon Han, who was eliminated in the People Power Party's presidential primary, had decided to support either candidate Moonsu Kim or Deoksoo Han. He responded, "After paying respects at the National Cemetery yesterday, candidate Kim had a phone conversation with former leader Han," and added, "Former leader Han served as our party's chairman and participated in this presidential primary," subtly indicating that former leader Han has a closer relationship with candidate Kim.
