Rain Expected from Afternoon to Night
in Chungcheong Region, Southern Areas, and Jeju Island

On May 5, which marks both Ipha, the traditional start of summer, and Children's Day, the weather across the country is expected to be mostly cloudy.


From the afternoon into the night, rain is forecast mainly in the Chungcheong region, southern areas, and Jeju Island. In the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province, there may also be brief showers in some places during the afternoon.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the highest temperatures during the day are expected to range from 17 to 21 degrees Celsius. The forecast calls for 18 degrees in Seoul, 21 degrees in Cheongju, Daejeon, and Daegu, and 19 degrees in Busan, which is generally similar to or slightly lower than the average for this time of year.


The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "Most areas will experience only brief rainfall, and there is a high likelihood that conditions will become calm again soon after." However, they also advised, "Roads may become slippery and visibility could be reduced, so please pay attention to traffic safety."


The expected precipitation amounts are as follows: less than 5mm for the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province; around 5mm for the Chungcheong region; 5 to 20mm for the Jeolla region and Jeju Island; 5 to 20mm for the Gyeongsang region (with Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province expecting 5 to 10mm); and less than 5mm for Ulleungdo and Dokdo.

Fine dust concentrations are forecast to remain at 'good' to 'normal' levels nationwide.


At sea, waves are expected to be relatively calm, with heights of 0.5 to 1.0 meters in the coastal waters of the East Sea, West Sea, and South Sea; 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the open waters of the East Sea and West Sea; and 0.5 to 2.0 meters in the open waters of the South Sea.
