"People Power Party Has Led the Great History of Korea"
Na Kyungwon: "Impeachment of the Head of the Judiciary... Collective Madness"
On May 4, Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, stated, "Right now, political and social integration is not happening at all," and declared, "I will achieve integration across all divides, including left and right, labor and management, east and west, men and women, and rich and poor."
Attending the inaugural meeting of the People Power Party's election campaign committee at the National Assembly on this day, candidate Kim said, "The People Power Party has led the great history of the Republic of Korea," and added, "Although we are facing many difficulties now, we will surely overcome them and build a nation of democracy, prosperity, and grand harmony that will astonish the world."
He continued, "Because the party is in a difficult situation, there will be many complicated and challenging paths ahead," but expressed confidence, saying, "If we appeal to the people, listen to them, and join hands with them, there is nothing we cannot accomplish." He added, "If we view this crisis as an opportunity for a leap forward, I believe that Korean democracy will write the most dynamic and greatest chapter in world history, the likes of which have never been seen before."
Candidate Kim emphasized, "Although we have achieved an economic miracle, we are now in an era of zero growth, and there are many hardships." He stressed, "If labor, management, the public, and the government join forces and work hard together?what we call 'labor-management-government-public' cooperation?I believe we can once again achieve a dramatic turnaround."
The previous day, candidate Kim appointed former leader Han Donghoon, who was his rival, as well as People Power Party lawmakers Na Kyungwon and Ahn Cheolsoo, and former lawmaker Yang Hyangja, as co-chairs of the election campaign committee.
At the meeting, campaign co-chair Na Kyungwon said, "The most serious crisis is the crisis of the liberal democratic order and the Constitution," and added, "You must have witnessed how Lee Jaemyung and the Democratic Party, which now monopolize legislative power, have shaken the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea." Regarding the Democratic Party's calls to impeach Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Heedae, she stated, "This shows collective madness that goes beyond intimidating judges and neutralizing legislation, now even attempting to drag down the head of the judiciary through impeachment," and defined it as "an explicit declaration against the Constitution and the rule of law in Korea."
Campaign co-chair Ahn Cheolsoo repeatedly urged candidate Kim at the meeting to issue a public apology regarding martial law and impeachment. Representative Ahn said of former President Yoon Sukyeol's declaration of emergency martial law, "It has become an irreversible event under the Constitution and the rule of law of the Republic of Korea," and emphasized, "As a result, an early presidential election was held and candidate Kim became the presidential nominee." He further called on candidate Kim, saying, "As a responsible politician who has served as a cabinet minister, now is the time to apologize to the public for martial law and impeachment. That is the very first justification for stopping Lee Jaemyung."
