Ulsan Nambu Fire Station Launches Campaign to Promote Proper Use of 119 Ambulances

Ulsan Nambu Fire Station will launch the "Campaign to Promote Proper Use of 119 Ambulances" at the Ulsan Grand Park SK Plaza and Nammun Plaza area at 10 a.m. on May 5, coinciding with the "2025 Ulsan Children's Day Grand Festival."

This campaign aims to secure the golden time for emergency patients and to reduce unnecessary loss of firefighting resources.

On this day, five staff members from Nambu Fire Station and about ten members of the Okdong Regional Volunteer Fire Brigade will participate in promotional activities targeting approximately 20,000 visitors, including children and their families.

The main themes of the campaign to promote the proper use of 119 ambulances are: ▲ refraining from indiscriminate non-emergency calls, ▲ eradicating violence against 119 paramedics, and ▲ respecting paramedics' decisions in selecting hospitals.

First, regarding refraining from indiscriminate non-emergency calls, the campaign promotes the importance of securing the golden time for critical emergency patients, such as those with cardiac arrest, stroke, myocardial infarction, or severe trauma, and urges the public to refrain from requesting ambulance transport for minor issues such as simple toothaches or colds, or for non-emergency cases such as intoxication.

Second, regarding the eradication of violence against 119 paramedics, the campaign clearly announces a strict response policy against those who obstruct emergency activities through violence or threats, in order to ensure smooth rescue operations by paramedics.

Violence against paramedics is a serious social crime that not only undermines the morale of paramedics who are dispatched to the scene to protect the lives of citizens, but also leads to a decline in the quality of emergency services due to hindered rescue activities.

Finally, regarding respect for paramedics' decisions in selecting hospitals, the campaign asks the public to respect the paramedics' decisions, as they choose the appropriate hospital for transport based on a comprehensive assessment of the patient's condition, severity classification, availability of medical departments, treatment and procedure capabilities, and real-time emergency room bed information.

An official from Nambu Fire Station stated, "The 119 ambulance is a shared resource that all citizens must protect together," and added, "We ask for your active participation in spreading a culture of proper ambulance use so that everyone can receive appropriate help in emergency situations."
