Seongsan District of Changwon Special City Launches Inspections of Daycare Center Group Meal Services to Prevent Food Poisoning

Seongsan District Office of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam Province, has decided to strengthen food poisoning safety management by conducting comprehensive inspections of group meal services at daycare centers for three weeks starting May 7, in response to a recent increase in suspected food poisoning reports caused by norovirus.

This inspection will target all 43 daycare centers that have reported the installation and operation of group meal services. The inspections will be carried out jointly with consumer food hygiene inspectors to prepare for norovirus and summer season food poisoning outbreaks.


The main inspection items include: whether expired or easily perishable foods are being used or stored; compliance with storage standards (refrigeration and freezing) for ingredients and cooked foods; adherence to hygiene and cleanliness management in the kitchen; proper washing and sterilization of food utensils and equipment; whether food handlers have undergone health checkups and are maintaining personal hygiene; and compliance with the obligation to keep food samples, among other food poisoning prevention measures.


Kim Su-yun, head of the Culture and Sanitation Division, stated, "As temperatures gradually rise, concerns about an increase in food poisoning cases are growing, and continuous hygiene management is necessary. We will do our best to create a safe meal environment through pre-inspections and food poisoning prevention education for group meal services at daycare centers."
