Goheung Clean Food Complex Development
Secures 8 Billion Won in National Funding
Jeonnam Province announced on May 1 that the Goheung Clean Food Complex has been selected for the second round of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Integrated Industrial Complex Environment Improvement Package Project, securing 8 billion won in national funding.
This project aims to improve living conditions in industrial complexes and attract young people by comprehensively enhancing the industrial complex environment. It includes the construction of a youth cultural center, the creation of beautiful streets, and the remodeling of aging factories.
Through this project, the Goheung Clean Food Complex will establish a youth cultural center with a total area of 803.7 square meters. The center will feature youth-friendly, multi-purpose facilities such as a cafe, meeting rooms, a fitness center, residential-style dormitories, and shared laundry rooms.
Additionally, a beautiful street will be created along a 1.5-kilometer section, including smart streetlights, a rain-free walkway, and improved pedestrian paths, transforming the area into a space where workers and local residents can communicate and coexist.
The project will be carried out over four years until 2028, with a total investment of 11.66 billion won (8 billion won in national funding and 3.66 billion won in local funding). It is expected to significantly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by attracting young people, establishing a foundation for startups, and creating jobs.
In 2024, Jeonnam Province secured the largest number of selected industrial complexes nationwide, with 12 complexes chosen for the project and 35.4 billion won in national funding obtained. This year, three more complexes?Goheung (second round), Suncheon (first round), and Muan (first round)?were selected, securing an additional 12.8 billion won in national funding, as the province continues to expand projects to improve living environments in aging industrial complexes.
A Jeonnam Province official stated, "We will continue to improve the living environment to attract young people and revitalize industrial complexes, and we will drive job creation and the revitalization of the local economy."
