On this day, Mayor Joo Gwangdeok boarded the first shuttle train at 7:29 a.m. at Maseok Station along with city officials, including the Planning and Coordination Office Director and the Transportation Bureau Director. He closely monitored the operation while traveling to Byeollae Station and listened to citizens' opinions.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "The operation of the Maseok~Sangbong shuttle train is the first implementation project of the Wangsuk New Town metropolitan transportation improvement plan and serves as an important turning point that will substantially reduce the inconvenience of citizens during their commutes. Going forward, we will continue to work closely with the government and related agencies to ensure that key metropolitan transportation projects, such as GTX-B and the extension of Line 9, can be promoted as quickly as possible."
This shuttle train is part of the metropolitan transportation improvement plan for the third phase of new towns, with a total investment of 33.4 billion KRW (funded by LH). It will operate 12 times a day during commuting hours until the scheduled opening of GTX-B in 2030. As a result, the existing interval between trains, which was 18 minutes, will be reduced to 12 minutes, significantly improving commuting conditions for citizens.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok emphasized that the city will continue to monitor the stability and efficiency of the shuttle train operation and will provide additional transportation conveniences, such as reducing the interval between trains during regular hours in the future, by reflecting citizens' opinions.
