According to NHK, due to a power outage that occurred between Hashima Station in Gifu Prefecture and Maibara Station in Shiga Prefecture on the Tokaido Shinkansen, operations were suspended from around 5:25 p.m. on April 30 on the down line between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka stations, as well as on the up line between Shin-Osaka and Nagoya stations.

Train operations gradually resumed from around 7:30 p.m., but it is expected to take more time before the Shinkansen returns to its normal schedule.

The cause of the outage was presumed to be a "snake." JR Tokai, which operates the Tokaido Shinkansen, stated that a short circuit occurred when a snake came into contact with the power lines.
