Suspicion of Bribery During 2020 Project Promotion
Seoul Northern District Prosecutors Conduct Surprise Searches of Office and Residence
An executive at the Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency is under investigation by prosecutors on suspicion of accepting bribes during the course of a business project. Prosecutors have launched a full-scale compulsory investigation, conducting searches and seizures at the executive's office and residence.
According to legal sources on April 30, the Northern District Prosecutors' Office in Seoul dispatched investigators in the morning to execute a search and seizure warrant at the Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency office in Nam-gu, Gwangju, among other locations. It is reported that the search targets included the office and residence of an executive-level employee, referred to as Mr. A.
Prosecutors have detected indications that Mr. A received bribes worth tens of millions of won from the head of a company around 2020 while promoting a related project, and are investigating him on charges of bribery.
The Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency has suspended Mr. A from his position and plans to take further disciplinary action depending on the outcome of the investigation.
Prosecutors are currently analyzing the materials they have secured and are considering whether to summon the individuals involved for questioning in the future.
