The "Social Transformation Presidential Election Solidarity Council" officially selected Kwon Youngguk, leader of the Justice Party, as its presidential candidate on April 30.

The Solidarity Council announced at 8:00 p.m. on the same day that Kwon received 70.5% of the votes, defeating Han Sanggyun, former chairperson of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, who received 29.5%. The total number of eligible voters was 7,559, and the voter turnout reached 85.7%. The primary voting period lasted from April 27 to April 30.
The Justice Party had previously decided at its National Committee and Party Congress, held on April 12 and 13, that the presidential candidate would be chosen by the Social Transformation Presidential Election Solidarity Council, which consists of the Justice Party, the Labor Party, the Green Party, and civil society organizations.
Kwon is scheduled to hold an official press conference to declare his candidacy at 11:00 a.m. on May 1 in front of the Haetae Statue at Gwanghwamun, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Previously, on April 16, Kwon stated his intention to run for president, declaring, "I will take the lead in building a nation without discrimination, a country where labor is respected, and an equal Republic of Korea."
