The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Autonomous Police Agency (headed by Oh Choongik) apprehended a driver who had picked bracken and was found to be driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.206%, which is at the level for license revocation.
The Autonomous Police Agency, in cooperation with the National Police, conducted joint crackdowns focused on the central area of Seogwipo city in March and April. Starting in May, they will significantly expand the crackdown to include suburban areas, including those with frequent accidents.
During a crackdown near the Pyoseon Seongeup Intersection on the 28th, a resident who was driving to pick bracken was caught with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.206%, which is at the license revocation level. At the same location, another driver was also caught for drunk driving at the license suspension level.
Previously, during intensive crackdowns on drunk driving accident-prone areas on the 25th and 28th, authorities detected one case of license revocation and one case of license suspension in the Seogwipo-dong area. In the afternoon, an additional case of license suspension was detected in Andeok-myeon.
These cases demonstrate that drunk driving occurs frequently not only after social gatherings involving alcohol, but also during everyday outdoor activities such as spring bracken picking, highlighting the urgent need for all residents to remain vigilant.
Kang Suchun, head of the Seogwipo Regional Police Unit, stated, "In recognition of Family Month, we are further strengthening drunk driving crackdowns to protect the safety of families and neighbors." He added, "With the increase in visitors to rural areas during the bracken picking season, we will continue to carry out strong crackdowns not only in urban areas but also in suburban regions."
He also emphasized, "You should never drive under the influence, thinking 'it will probably be fine' during daily life," and urged, "I ask that all residents take responsibility as key actors in traffic safety."
