"Revitalizing Gourmet and Healing Tourism with Local Well-being Foods"

Hoengseong County in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Myunggi) announced on April 29 that the "Deodeok Hanwoo Gimbap," developed by the Hoengseong Culture and Tourism Foundation (CEO Jae Sung Lee) in collaboration with the National Hoengseong Forest Healing Center, was selected for the "Forest Healing Food Development and Distribution Project" hosted by the Forest Welfare Research and Development Center.

The Deodeok Hanwoo Gimbap will undergo analysis of 10 types of antioxidant properties, including immune, vascular, and anti-aging functions, as well as a five-level evaluation of its healing food index, to be officially recognized as a healing food in the future.

The foundation plans to introduce the Deodeok Hanwoo Gimbap to tourists as part of a gourmet healing experience program starting in June. The gimbap is a healthy forest product meal made with Hoengseong rice (Eosajinmi) and Hoengseong deodeok, which accounts for 30% of the ingredients, and is further enriched by the flavor of Hoengseong Hanwoo beef. The foundation expects a positive response from participants.

Additionally, the gourmet healing experience program, themed "Hoengseong Healing Lunchbox Embracing Nature," will be held at the Hoengseong Hanwoo Experience Center. Participants will listen to stories about eight of Hoengseong County's most renowned local specialties while making gimbap themselves.

Participants will also make salads using Hoengseong's representative specialty products such as grains, apples, and tomatoes, and will be able to enjoy their completed lunchboxes while experiencing nature at rural experience and recreation villages and the National Hoengseong Forest Healing Center.

Jae Sung Lee, CEO of the Hoengseong Culture and Tourism Foundation, stated, "This achievement is the result of the 'Business Agreement for Coexistence and Development of Local Tourism' among the Hoengseong Culture and Tourism Foundation, the National Hoengseong Forest Healing Center, and the Hoengseong Rural Experience and Recreation Village," adding, "We hope this will lead to the revitalization of gourmet and healing tourism utilizing local ingredients."

The foundation has been promoting community projects since 2023 to provide food education and foster local planners, and last year developed 13 types of local recipes using regional specialty products as ingredients.
