Chuncheon City to Build New Integrated Health Center for Health Promotion and Screening Services

Interim Report Meeting on New Construction Design Service Held on April 29
Project Aims for Completion in 2027

On April 29, Chuncheon City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor: Yuk Donghan), held an interim report meeting for the basic and detailed design services of the new public health center at the Toegye-dong Community Center in Chuncheon.

During the meeting, the design service provider explained the basic design details, including the floor-by-floor layout plan of the health center, exterior material finishes, landscaping and landscape lighting, and facility plans. The new health center advisory group, composed of experts from the medical and public health fields, public healthcare officials, and city council members, as well as health center staff, exchanged opinions on the project.

Based on the results of this interim report meeting, Chuncheon City plans to complete the design service by January next year after undergoing the facility design review by the Korea Health Promotion Institute, landscape review, and certification procedures for zero energy and barrier-free (BF) environments.

The Chuncheon City Public Health Center construction project was selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Rural Medical Service Improvement Project in 2023, with a total budget of 54.5 billion won (8 billion won from the national government, 2 billion won from the provincial government, and 44.5 billion won from the city government).

The new building will be constructed at 97, Soyang-ro 4-ga, with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, totaling a gross floor area of 12,961 square meters. The facility will integrate the functions of the health center, Dementia Relief Center, and Screening Clinic.

Currently, Chuncheon City Public Health Center operates in an aging building completed in 2001, with departments dispersed throughout the facility, which has led to user inconvenience and reduced work efficiency.

With an average of approximately 15,000 visitors per month, there is an urgent need to secure spaces for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and to establish a screening clinic to strengthen the infectious disease response system.

Chuncheon City plans to complete the design by the end of this year, begin construction in January next year, and aims to complete the project by the end of 2027.

A Chuncheon City official stated, "We will create a health center that not only emphasizes practicality and future-oriented design but also harmonizes with the neighboring Art Village and Art Museum, which are adjacent to the current site, so that it can serve as an open cultural complex for citizens. We aim to meet citizens’ expectations for improved access to health and medical services and the expansion of health promotion programs."
