'Appearing in Seoul,' Kim Youngsun Says, "I Will File Complaint Against Kang Hyekyung for Violating Political Funds Act"

On April 29, the investigation team at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, led by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Jihyung, summoned former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Youngsun as a reference witness in connection with the investigation into Myung Taegyun. Outside the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, Kim announced to reporters that he would file a complaint with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office against Kang Hyekyung, his former accounting manager, on charges including violations of the Political Funds Act, embezzlement, and fraud.

Kim stated, "Kang Hyekyung is at the root of all these incidents," and argued, "If Kang's crimes are not uncovered and the case is diverted elsewhere, the prosecution is effectively protecting a criminal." Regarding allegations that he received false legal consulting fees by exploiting his qualification as a lawyer, he responded, "In fact, I have never received more than 5 million won as a lawyer," and explained, "At that time, I signed a consulting contract as a lawyer simply to make a living."

When asked whether he had introduced Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon to Myung, Kim did not give a direct answer, saying, "Various speculations are being used to openly promote a criminal's actions during the election." He also declined to answer questions about whether he planned to participate in a face-to-face interrogation with Myung, who appeared with him that day, or what testimony he would provide. Kim's attorney commented on the possibility of a confrontation, saying, "If required, it could be done."

Meanwhile, the prosecution is expected to use cross-examination of the two individuals' statements to verify allegations regarding the payment of Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon's poll expenses by a third party, as well as circumstances suggesting the involvement of First Lady Kim Keonhee in candidate nominations.
