Unused Amounts from 2020 and 2021 Issuances Total 135 Million Won
On April 29, Hongseong County in South Chungcheong Province announced that it will extend the expiration date of unused Hongseong Sarang Gift Certificates issued in 2020 and 2021 until December 31, 2026.
The expiration period for Hongseong Sarang Gift Certificates is five years from the date of issuance for paper certificates, and five years from the date of purchase for mobile certificates. However, the regulations state that the county governor may set a separate expiration period if it is deemed particularly necessary to revitalize the local economy.
For Hongseong Sarang Gift Certificates issued after 2022, a portion of the discount cost for issuing the certificates is subsidized by the national government, which prohibits the extension of previously issued certificates. Therefore, the county has decided to extend the expiration period only for certificates issued in 2020 and 2021, taking into consideration the position and convenience of county residents.
As of the end of March 2025, the unused amount of Hongseong Sarang Gift Certificates issued in 2020 and 2021 totaled 135 million won, with 118 million won in paper certificates and 17 million won in mobile certificates.
The issuance date for paper certificates can be found at the bottom of the back page of the certificate, while for mobile certificates, users can check the remaining balance and expiration date by tapping the balance on the first screen after logging in.
Kim Taeok, head of the county’s Economic Policy Division, said, "We urge both users and business owners who use Hongseong Sarang Gift Certificates to make sure to check the expiration date and use or exchange the certificates before they expire."
