The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jongshik) announced on April 29 that it will officially launch the "2025 Parent Challenge! Life Achievement Superintendent Certification Program" starting in May, with the aim of strengthening communication and trust between families and schools and fostering a culture of voluntary parental participation in education.
This certification program has been designed under the vision of "Gyeongbuk Parent Education Participation Achieving Life (S.A.R.M)," enabling parents to recognize their role as key participants in education and enhance their capabilities by completing a variety of educational participation tasks that can be practiced even amid their busy daily lives.
The challenge consists of four areas: School Participation (School), Child Education (Academic), Building Home-School Relationships (Relationship), and Creating Parent-Child Memories (Memory). Parents will carry out various tasks in each of these areas.
In the School Participation (School) area, activities include attending school education briefings and proposing educational policies, focusing on engagement in the educational field. In the Child Education (Academic) area, parents are encouraged to strengthen their capabilities through parent education programs such as Father School, family camps, and the Future Education Academy.
In the Building Home-School Relationships (Relationship) area, activities such as participating in teacher rights awareness quizzes and transcribing the Gyeongbuk Parent Declaration are provided to foster communication and trust between home and school. In the Creating Parent-Child Memories (Memory) area, activities such as completing missions that express love for children are suggested to enhance family bonds.
Parents who meet the achievement criteria for each area will be awarded superintendent certificates in gold, silver, or bronze, according to their level of accomplishment.
The participation period runs for six months, from May to October. Parents can access the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education Parent Support Center and upload certification materials for the tasks completed in each area. In November, after a certification review, the superintendent certificates will be awarded, and at the end of the year, a performance sharing event will be held to highlight and share outstanding cases.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to use the experience gained from operating this year's certification program to foster a broader and more systematic culture of parental participation in education, ultimately realizing a "warm educational community" where students, parents, and schools grow together.
Lim Jongshik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "Empowering parents and encouraging their voluntary participation in education are the driving forces of future education that enhance trust within the educational community," adding, "Through the Parent Challenge! Life Achievement Certification Program, we will realize a warm education in Gyeongbuk."
