Jeonnam Province announced on April 29 that it has partnered with the Korean franchise company Yamsaem Gimbap to launch four new menu items nationwide, including premium gimbap made with abalone.

Jeonnam Province plans to develop meal menus using abalone as an ingredient, expand the consumer base through popular franchise dining businesses, and promote abalone consumption.

The four new menu items to be launched by Yamsaem Gimbap are abalone egg roll gimbap, abalone bibimbap, abalone and crab meat fried rice, and abalone muljjolmyeon. Only live abalone from Jeonnam is used, and the menus were developed through research and testing to match consumer preferences.

Previously, in November last year, Jeonnam Province signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Yamsaem Gimbap during the "Jeonnam World Gimbap Festival" to promote the consumption of Jeonnam's seafood products. The launch of these new menu items is a follow-up measure to menu development and product consumption based on this agreement.

Yamsaem Gimbap currently operates about 250 franchise locations nationwide and is a major franchise restaurant company, also expanding its business in the United States. With the development and launch of these new menu items, an additional 56 tons of abalone are expected to be consumed annually. Jeonnam Province plans to expand the development of processed products using not only abalone but also a variety of seafood from Jeonnam, depending on consumer response.

An official from Jeonnam Province said, "These new products combine the health benefits and nutrition of abalone with gimbap and snack dishes," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to promote seafood consumption and further popularize abalone."
