This current program is the first to be held at the official request of the Turkmenistan government, which has agreed to cover all expenses related to the visit and training. The education is being conducted in Korean at the International Education and Science Center of Turkmenistan, with cooperation from the local King Sejong Institute.
The visiting education team includes Professor Yang Kiyoung (team leader) from the Graduate School of Korean Medicine at Pusan National University, who is responsible for acupuncture medicine; Professor Kim Hyungwoo, who is teaching Korean medical pharmacology; and Professor Chae Han, who is in charge of basic theory education in Korean medicine. The program is expected to contribute to improving primary healthcare in Central Asia through Korean medicine.
Cooperation in traditional medicine between the two countries is being carried out under a memorandum of understanding signed by the Graduate School of Korean Medicine at Pusan National University and the Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan. With support from the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development, clinical training in Korean medicine for Central Asian doctors has been conducted at the Yangsan Pusan National University Korean Medicine Hospital for three consecutive years. Starting in 2026, a government scholarship degree program will be launched to foster experts in traditional medicine from Central Asia.
The Pusan National University Center for International Cooperation in Korean Medicine plans to establish a Korean Medicine Center in Ashgabat together with the Turkmenistan government, promoting local education in Korean medicine, clinical services, and cooperation in the traditional herbal medicine industry. To this end, the center has built a stable diplomatic cooperation framework with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Turkmenistan and the Korea Foundation Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum Secretariat, and is also working with the Association of Korean Medicine to globalize Korean medicine and support the overseas advancement of Korean medicine doctors.
