On April 28, Bucheon City announced that the Bucheon International Comics Market (B-COM) has been selected for the second consecutive year in Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Tourism Organization's 2025 'Regional Specialized MICE Discovery and Development Project' competition.
With this selection, the city has secured 50 million KRW in incubation stage support funds and will also receive step-by-step consulting from experts in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) sector.
Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization conducted the competition for 31 cities and counties in the province and private organizations. After evaluating various factors such as regional connectivity, growth potential, program content, international conference linkage, and tourism programs, they selected five organizations, including Bucheon City, as the final recipients of support.
The Bucheon International Comics Market is a content-specialized event planned based on the Bucheon comics and webtoon cluster. It has established itself as a platform that expands the base of the domestic content industry and supports local companies in advancing overseas.
In particular, by linking with major local festivals such as the Bucheon International Comics Festival (BICOF) and the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF), the event operates a variety of side programs including international conferences, business meetings, receptions, and tourism programs, striving to achieve tangible industrial outcomes.
A Bucheon City official stated, "As the comics and webtoon intellectual property (IP) industry is gaining attention, we hope that convergence with the MICE industry will serve as an opportunity to widely promote Bucheon's unique specialized content," adding, "Going forward, we will lead the secondary intellectual property industry linked to cultural industries such as film, comics, and animation to revitalize the local economy."
