Preemptive Review of Disaster Response and
Strengthening of Collaboration Systems for Heavy Rainfall and Typhoons
On April 28, Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province held the "2025 Summer Natural Disaster Countermeasure Meeting" in the city hall auditorium. Ahead of the official start of the countermeasure period, the city preemptively reviewed response plans for disasters such as heavy rainfall and typhoons.

The meeting was presided over by Vice Mayor Lee Jaehun, who is serving as acting mayor. Approximately 70 participants attended, including directors of bureaus and departments, heads of offices, and local district leaders, to inspect the city's disaster response system for the summer season.
The meeting focused on several key topics: sharing the 2025 summer weather outlook; discussing improvement measures based on analysis of last year's damage cases; and reviewing the implementation plans for each of the 13 collaborative function teams. Discussions centered on developing practical and effective response strategies.
This year, particular emphasis is being placed on strengthening field-oriented response capabilities. This includes advance inspections and control plans for disaster-prone areas, evacuation systems for vulnerable populations, and ensuring the effectiveness of village shelters. The city is also revising its response and collaboration systems by conducting scenario-based drills to enable swift decision-making and cooperation among departments.
In addition, sector-specific response plans are being systematically refined to prepare for heavy rainfall in areas such as rivers, roads, landslides, energy, and communication facilities.
Acting Mayor Lee Jaehun stated, "As disasters caused by abnormal weather patterns are becoming more common, preparation at this moment is the most effective way to minimize damage." He urged, "All departments must establish response systems that can function in real situations and do their utmost to protect the lives and property of our citizens."
With this meeting as a starting point, the city has designated May 15 to October 15 as the summer natural disaster countermeasure period. During this time, Yeongju City plans to continuously strengthen its disaster response capabilities through a variety of field-oriented programs, including on-site resident evacuation education and the Safe Korea Training for storm and flood response.
