Cross-Certification Approved... Halal Certification for Jelly-Specialized Line
Targeting the Indonesian Inner Beauty Market
Preparing Halal Certification for Two Proprietary Ingredients Including Lyceringi
Cosmax Bio, a company specializing in the manufacturing of health functional foods on an ODM basis, announced on April 28 that it has obtained halal certification for entry into the Indonesian market.
Cosmax Bio recently received renewed halal certification for its Jecheon plant from the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF) Halal Committee. The company pursued this recertification with the aim of targeting Indonesia, which is recognized as the world's largest halal market.
To enter the Indonesian food market, obtaining halal certification from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is mandatory. However, due to regulatory changes implemented in the second half of last year, KMF halal certification has also been included as a cross-certification requirement.
In response, Cosmax Bio conducted a comprehensive review of its entire manufacturing process. Notably, this recertification also covers the newly introduced jelly-specialized production facility, JelEx, which was installed last year, opening the door for Cosmax Bio to supply jelly-type products to the Indonesian market.
Alongside its production facilities, Cosmax Bio has completed preparations for halal certification of its proprietary individually recognized ingredients. Currently, the company offers two domestic proprietary ingredients: Perilla frutescens extract, which supports eye health, and Hydrangea leaf hot-water extract (Lyceringi), which is beneficial for skin health and body fat reduction.
Cosmax Bio plans to target the local market with Lyceringi, an inner beauty ingredient, at the forefront. In February, Cosmax Bio participated in the "Cosmax Innovation Conference 2025" hosted by Cosmax Indonesia, where it showcased Lyceringi, other inner beauty ingredients, and flagship products such as vitamins and jelly-type health functional foods, attracting significant attention.
A Cosmax Bio representative stated, "We will soon be able to introduce products made with proprietary domestic ingredients in the Indonesian market, which is regarded as the world's largest halal market," adding, "We will create synergy with Cosmax's Indonesian network to successfully establish a presence in the Indonesian market."
Meanwhile, Indonesia's health functional food market continues to grow, particularly in the online sector. According to global data analytics firm Euromonitor, the Indonesian health functional food market was valued at 35.088 trillion rupiah (approximately 3.046 trillion won) last year and is projected to reach 42.074 trillion rupiah (about 3.65 trillion won) by 2028.
