"AI, Overcoming Bias" Book Concert on April 30... Addressing Solutions to Bias and Discrimination in AI

The Center for Gendered Innovation in Science and Technology Research (GISTeR) will hold a book concert on April 30 to celebrate the publication of "AI, Overcoming Bias: The Future of Artificial Intelligence Embracing Diversity."

This event is organized with the support of Microsoft Korea and the Ministry of Science and ICT to shed light on the issue of bias in artificial intelligence (AI) technology and to explore the direction of technological advancement from the perspectives of inclusivity and diversity.


"AI, Overcoming Bias" is a book planned by GISTeR and co-authored by ten experts from academia, industry, and research institutes in Korea. The book provides an in-depth analysis of the issues of bias and discrimination embedded in the AI ecosystem and presents potential solutions.


The book concert will take place on the 13th floor of the Microsoft Korea headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and will be moderated by Assistant Professor Lee Jiyeong (Department of Data Science, College of Artificial Intelligence, Ewha Womans University). Among the authors participating are: Professor Kang Junghan (Department of Sociology, Yonsei University); Executive Director Kwon Oseong (MS Innovation Hub); Professor Lee Sanguk (Department of Philosophy and Department of Artificial Intelligence, Hanyang University); and Director Lee Hyesook (GISTeR).


Professor Kang will examine the issue of emotional standardization and the conditions for sustainable AI, focusing on the impact of AI technology on human emotions and ethics. Executive Director Kwon will highlight the importance of technological accessibility and inclusive design, and discuss the role of companies in ensuring that diverse users can equally benefit from technology.


Professor Lee will explain the importance of gender and conceptual diversity in scientific and technological research from a philosophical perspective, shedding light on pluralism as the foundation for technological innovation. Director Lee will introduce the current state of AI bias issues in fields such as healthcare, employment, and public administration, and will present policy and technological response strategies.


GISTeR stated, "Through this book concert, we hope to share the potential for AI technology to develop in a more fair and inclusive manner, and to provide a starting point for participants from diverse backgrounds to lead the discourse together."
