Customized Forest Healing Programs
Approximately 15,000 Annual Visitors
Promoting Health and Emotional Well-being
Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced that 'Baegunsan Healing Forest' has established itself as a leading forest welfare space, attracting approximately 15,000 visitors annually through a variety of programs.
'Baegunsan Healing Forest' is a facility created based on the pristine natural environment of Baegunsan Mountain in Gwangyang, and is equipped with a Healing Forest Center, healing trails, healing gardens, healing yards, and an air bath area, among other amenities.
In particular, the forest offers customized forest healing programs tailored to visitors’ health conditions, age, and occupation, which have received steady positive feedback. Major programs include 'Hanguleum Dugeoleum' for youth, 'Yeounolja' for office workers, 'Ssamoksamok' for people with disabilities and seniors, and 'Dabokdabok' for families. In addition, there are specialized programs for various groups such as menopausal women, cancer survivors, and pregnant women.
Each program is centered on experiential activities utilizing forest resources, such as relaxation exercises, barefoot walking, forest yoga, foot baths, hammock meditation, and aromatherapy, helping to restore visitors’ physical vitality and promote emotional stability.
Furthermore, 'Baegunsan Healing Forest' operates seven healing trail routes totaling 10.3 kilometers, which can be selected according to health condition and season, providing participants with an environment to connect with nature and experience healing.
The operating hours for 'Baegunsan Healing Forest' are twice daily (10:00?12:00 in the morning, 14:30?16:30 in the afternoon), and during the winter season, the programs are adjusted to focus on indoor activities. The facility is closed every Monday, on January 1, during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, and on substitute holidays.
The number of participants per session is around 15, and all programs require advance reservations. The usage fee is 5,000 won per individual and 4,000 won per person for groups of 15 or more. Gwangyang residents receive a 50% discount, and national merit recipients, people with disabilities, families with multiple children, and basic livelihood security recipients can use the facilities free of charge.
Shim Hyunwoo, Director of the Gwangyang City Recreational Forest Division, stated, "'Baegunsan Healing Forest' is not just a simple forest trail, but a welfare space where anyone can heal through specialized healing programs," adding, "We will continue to develop and operate customized programs so that people from various backgrounds can achieve health and emotional stability through forest resources."
