High-Quality Performances at Your Doorstep and Parks... Nowon District Launches "Traveling Orchestra" Concerts

Nowon District in Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seungrok) announced that it has launched the "2025 Traveling Orchestra" tour performances to enhance the quality of life for residents through cultural experiences.

The "Traveling Orchestra" is one of the district's flagship touring culture and arts programs, designed to allow local residents to enjoy high-quality performances close to home. It features not only classical music but also a variety of genres on everyday stages such as apartment complexes, parks, and community cultural spaces, receiving enthusiastic responses from the public.

This year's first performance was held in conjunction with the "2025 Bukhansan Royal Azalea Festival," set against the backdrop of the Azalea Hill, where 100,000 azalea bushes create a spectacular scene. The special collaboration stage by Poppin Hyunjoon and traditional Korean musician Park Aeri combined modern poppin dance with traditional Korean vocal music, drawing an enthusiastic response from the audience.

The next performance will take place at 4:00 p.m. on May 6 at Sanggye Jugong Complex 12. The opening act will be performed by the Western Symphony Orchestra. Under the baton of conductor Bang Seongho, the orchestra will present a repertoire that reinterprets classical music in a modern style. The program will also include familiar tunes such as the soundtrack from the movie "Avengers," making it accessible and enjoyable even for classical music newcomers.

Saxophonist Kim Sunghoon will reinterpret Lee Moonse's famous songs "Flying Through the Deep Night" and "Becoming Dust" on the saxophone, adding a fresh resonance to these well-known pieces. With the saxophone's unique deep breath and delicate nuances, he is expected to express the emotional lines of the original songs.

The highlight of the performance will be a stage by soprano Ahn Hyesu. Known for her warm tone and dazzling coloratura technique, Ahn Hyesu is a young vocalist actively performing in Korea and abroad. For this performance, she will present "Memory," the signature number from the musical "Cats," followed by "A Whole New World," the famous soundtrack from the animation "Aladdin."

The remaining first-half performances will be held on May 17 at the car-free street near Wolgye Lotte Castle Luna Apartments and on June 7 in the tranquil setting of Hakdoam. Each performance will feature a blend of genres, including not only classical music but also jazz and saxophone performances. The performance duration is scheduled to be about 80 minutes. All performances are free of charge and open to everyone without prior reservation.

Meanwhile, Nowon District is holding various outdoor cultural events centered around the "2025 Bukhansan Royal Azalea Festival: Again, Spring" to celebrate the spring season. On May 3, the "Nowon Wonderland: Secret Garden" event will be held in celebration of Children's Day. The event will take place in the areas around Junggye Neighborhood Park and Deungnamu Neighborhood Park, which offer spacious and safe green spaces, and will feature stage performances and hands-on programs for families to enjoy together. Oh Seungrok, Mayor of Nowon District, stated, "The Traveling Orchestra is a project that reflects our sincere intention to proactively deliver cultural welfare to residents," adding, "We will continue to offer a variety of content to make culture an everyday part of life in Nowon."
