Request for Support in Securing National and Provincial Funding Projects
Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 28th that it held the '2025 Geochang County Major Project Report Meeting,' attended by approximately 40 people, including National Assembly member Shin Sungbeom, County Council Chair Lee Jaeun, Vice Chair Shin Jungyang, and senior officials.
This report meeting proceeded in the order of introducing Geochang County's ten major projects for 2025, followed by a report on projects to secure national and provincial funding for 2026. It was prepared with the aim of responding optimally to the current government fiscal situation and the local economic environment.
The ten major projects for 2025 include: ▲ Implementing a roadmap to achieve a living population of one million and advancing as a tourism industry city by utilizing the east-west-south-north tourism belt ▲ Establishing the Geochang-style medical welfare town and the Geochang cremation facility 'Cheonsang Park' ▲ Operating as a leading area for special education development zones and promoting the Geochang Elementary School complex facility project ▲ Constructing the Geochang Art Gallery and Theater Arts Complex ▲ Creating community sports facilities within the second Changpowon ▲ Completing the smart elevator demonstration test tower and the second test tower ▲ Developing the Geochang advanced general industrial complex ▲ Improving the Gimcheon-ri natural disaster risk area ▲ Promoting the Geochang Changpowon eco-tourism and cultural complex project and establishing an organic farming complex ▲ Fostering future-oriented smart agriculture to respond to climate change.
The subsequent national and provincial funding projects were reported to total 127 cases, amounting to 177.7 billion KRW.
Major projects identified include: ▲ 'Gohyang Olrae (Local Study Abroad),' which aims to connect rural study abroad programs for elementary and middle school students with local exchange and job programs for parents ▲ The Eumgi-Yanggi disaster risk area improvement project to prevent river flooding and inundation ▲ The Migideul area natural disaster risk improvement project ▲ Establishing a center for the utilization of unused forest resources in response to increased forest biomass ▲ Creating the Suseungdae barrier-free sharing trail so that people with disabilities, the elderly, and children can all enjoy the natural environment ▲ Constructing public parking lots to alleviate parking shortages in areas with dense schools and apartments ▲ Creating the Geochang County Urban Wind Path Forest to facilitate the movement and dispersion of fine dust in the city ▲ The traditional market district urban regeneration project to address declining commercial districts and aging housing ▲ The smart city solution expansion project to intelligently address current urban issues using Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies ▲ The open-field smart technology convergence demonstration model expansion project to mechanize and digitize multi-axis orchards ▲ The Mari-myeon local water supply expansion project, among others.
The Geochang County Governor requested the full support of National Assembly member Shin Sungbeom to ensure that the identified national and provincial funding projects are selected, and asked for encouragement from the Geochang County Council, including Chair Lee Jaeun and Vice Chair Shin Jungyang, as partners in county administration.
Representative Shin stated, "Through today's report meeting, I was able to closely examine the county's core projects," and urged, "Please make efforts to identify projects that will be of practical benefit to local residents, such as dredging local rivers, operating regional children's centers and childcare dream centers, and discovering regionally specialized sports."
He added, "I will closely monitor central government trends and recommend necessary projects to the county, and will do my best to ensure that the required national funding is reflected as much as possible for regional development."
Governor Koo Inmo commended the efforts of public officials in project identification and requested, "For the county's continued development, focus on discovering new projects, stay alert to the work plans and policy directions of central ministries and South Gyeongsang Province, and respond proactively to lead the future of Geochang."
