Strengthening On-Site Response Capabilities
Including Measurement of Exhaust Noise
The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) announced on the 27th that it conducted hands-on training for 220 local government noise inspection officials nationwide from the 22nd to the 24th.
This training was organized to enhance inspection capabilities following the revision of the Noise and Vibration Control Act, which mandated ad-hoc inspections of vehicle noise by local governments starting in June last year. According to the Noise and Vibration Control Act, noise refers to loud sounds generated by machines or facilities, or by human activities in specific locations.

The Authority increased the effectiveness of the program by shifting from theory-based instruction to a hands-on approach. At the Tuning Safety Technology Institute in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, nine noise meters, eight motorcycles, and one car were arranged at the training site, and ten vehicle safety inspectors participated to simulate real road conditions.
Participants learned firsthand about vehicle structures, types of illegal modifications, and noise measurement methods. One official stated, "I felt burdened because the methods for measuring vehicle noise are complicated and unfamiliar, but through this training, I was able to clearly understand the practical information needed for my job. I believe this will be very helpful for future inspections."
Jung Yongshik, President of the Authority, said, "We expect this training to improve the on-site response capabilities of those in charge of ad-hoc inspections. Going forward, we will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Environment, local governments, and the police to reduce public inconvenience caused by noise."
