On April 27, LG Display announced that it has become the first company in the display industry to receive the 'Product Carbon Footprint Methodology' certification from TUV Rheinland, a global inspection and certification organization.
The Product Carbon Footprint Methodology certification is granted to companies that have established systems and frameworks to quantitatively calculate carbon emissions throughout the entire life cycle of a product in accordance with international standards.
To proactively respond to the growing demand for low-carbon products and the increasing requests from clients for certification information, LG Display established its own product carbon footprint assessment system based on the international standard ISO 14067.
This system incorporates all essential requirements, such as data collection, calculation, and impact assessment methods, and has been further advanced by applying an in-house assessment method optimized for display products. In addition, LG Display has developed a product carbon footprint assessment IT system that calculates carbon emissions by linking with the existing development system once the basic product information is entered.
Through this certification, LG Display has officially demonstrated its ability to transparently and systematically manage carbon emissions. Based on this, the company plans to actively respond to the eco-friendly demands of stakeholders, including global clients, and to strengthen its competitiveness in environmentally friendly products.
Park Jeonggi, Executive Vice President and Head of the Medium-Sized Development Group at LG Display, stated, "This certification is a meaningful achievement that demonstrates the global credibility of LG Display's eco-friendly product management system," adding, "We will continue to focus on developing various technologies to ensure transparent ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management based on quantitative data."
