Lee Jae Myung, the Democratic Party presidential primary candidate, stated, "The spirit of Honam is the mandate for democracy, peace, and reform for people's livelihoods. I ask you to help create the fourth democratic government."
On the afternoon of the 26th, at the Honam region joint rally held at the Kim Dae Jung Convention Center in Gwangju, Lee presented his policy vision, saying, "I will firmly establish Gwangju as an AI-centered city that leads the competition in artificial intelligence," and added, "I will ensure that Jeonnam and Jeonbuk are reborn as hubs of renewable energy, where RE100 industrial complexes are integrated with renewable energy production sites, through an interconnected energy expressway."
Lee said, "The spirits of May 1980 in Gwangju saved the living people of today," and continued, "A small but great spectrum of colors has come together to stop the dirty rebellion of those in power and revive the democracy that was built with blood."
He emphasized, "At every bend in our turbulent history, it was Honam that showed the path toward a true democratic republic for Korea." He added, "Following the Candlelight Revolution, the revolution of light that amazed the world?K-democracy?also began here in Gwangju, the City of Light."
Lee appealed, "Overcoming crises, national unity, democracy and peace, and the mandate for reform for people's livelihoods?these are the spirit of Honam," and urged, "I ask Honam to choose Lee Jae Myung and help create the fourth democratic government."
He continued, "In this rapidly changing era of advanced science and technology, imitation no longer works. To survive and win in the harsh international competition, we must now lead the world," and explained, "The Democratic Party has a blueprint to turn this opportunity for change into a stepping stone for Honam's development."
Lee said, "I deeply resonate with candidate Kim Dong Yeon's promise to revitalize the economy by building a renewable energy belt, and with candidate Kim Kyung Soo's vision to create new engines of growth through five major regional megacities, including Honam," and pledged, "As the connecting point for maritime and land transportation and a treasure trove of renewable energy such as wind and solar power, Honam will now embark on a path of sustainable and balanced development."
He further added, "The path walked by the late former President Kim Dae Jung is the path of the Democratic Party, and it is also the future that our Republic of Korea must pursue," and continued, "We must move from 'Meoksanism,' which is the material foundation, toward 'Jalsanism,' where a happy life is possible."
