On April 25, at 3:00 p.m., Busan National University and National Pukyong University held a signing ceremony for a "Mutual Agreement for the Joint Development of National Universities in the Busan Region" on the first floor of Jangbogo Hall at National Pukyong University.

Through this agreement, the two universities aim to leverage their human and material resources to develop Busan into a global hub for science and technology research and education. Under the agreement, the universities plan to cooperate in a variety of areas, including: joint graduate-centered talent development for nurturing scientific and technological professionals; exchange and shared utilization of resources between the two institutions; establishment of an industry-academia-research cooperation network linked to the local industry; and joint development and operation of advanced science and technology curricula.

In particular, the two universities agreed to use this agreement as an opportunity to establish a long-term cooperative system based on the national "One Province, One National University" model in response to the declining school-age population. Through this, they aim to explore new directions that simultaneously strengthen the public nature and efficiency of higher education.

To ensure the smooth implementation of the agreement, the two universities will form and operate a "Joint Committee" and jointly establish short-term and mid-to-long-term action plans to gradually specify and deepen their cooperation.

Notably, as part of the Glocal University 30 project being promoted by National Pukyong University this year, the two universities have decided to present a concrete implementation strategy, including the establishment of a "National Busan Institute of Science and Technology" (tentative name) in the form of a joint graduate school, thus taking the first substantial step toward practical cooperation.

Additionally, by expanding effective research and development (R&D) through collaboration with local companies and research institutes and generating joint outcomes, the universities plan to create a leading model for cooperation among national universities in the Busan region.

At the signing ceremony, Busan National University President Jaewon Choi stated, "As national universities sharing the public mission and responsibility of the region, Busan National University and National Pukyong University will cooperate based on mutual respect and trust, and together seek new directions for higher education."

National Pukyong University President Sanghoon Bae said, "With this agreement, by actively utilizing the outstanding capabilities and infrastructure of both universities across all fields of higher education, local government, industry, and research, we expect to create significant synergy effects that will lead the future competitiveness of the southeastern region and the nation."
