According to foreign media outlets such as the Associated Press on the 24th (local time), at around 12:30 p.m. that day, a 15-year-old second-year male student stabbed four people at a private high school in Nantes, France. The female student who was targeted by the suspect died from her injuries, and one of the three injured students is in critical condition and receiving treatment at a hospital. After the incident, the school evacuated around 2,000 students and notified parents about the incident and the procedures for students to return home. Students began to leave the school in stages with police assistance starting at 3:30 p.m., about three hours after the incident. Military and police personnel were deployed to seal off the school and secure the surrounding area.

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a helmet, a mask, and black clothing, and was carrying two knives, including a hunting knife. The exact motive for the attack has not yet been determined. It was reported that prior to the attack, the suspect sent emails to several students. The emails stated, "Globalization has turned us humans into machines and destroyed our humanity. Even if it is cruel, we must launch a biological rebellion to return to the original natural order." Nantes Mayor Johanna Rolland did not disclose further details about the suspect but said, "I am concerned about the mental health of the country's youth."

French President Emmanuel Macron wrote about the incident on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying, "Teachers intervened actively and were able to prevent further tragedy," and added, "I pay tribute to the courage of the school staff." He also offered words of comfort to the bereaved families, students, and the education community, who are in shock and mourning.

Prime Minister Francois Bayrou ordered increased security in and around schools across France and called for the preparation of new legislation within four weeks to prevent and punish stabbings among youth and children. He also stated, "We may consider installing metal detectors in schools."
