A Variety of Events at Daebyeon Port in Gijang
as "Silver Anchovies Arrive on the Spring Breeze" Until the 27th
On April 25, Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) will kick off the grand opening of the 29th Gijang Anchovy Festival, recognized as the nation's top seafood festival, at Daebyeon Port in Gijang-eup.
Celebrating its 29th year, the Gijang Anchovy Festival is the county's signature event, hosted by the Gijang Anchovy Festival Promotion Committee (Chairman Park Sanghyun).
This year, the festival will be held over three days from April 25 to 27, and as it is being held for the first time in two years, an even richer program has been prepared.
Starting with the opening ceremony on April 25, there will be daily celebratory performances featuring popular singers such as Hong Jinyoung, Na Sangdo, and Heo Chanmi. In addition, a variety of hands-on and participatory events will take place, including the Gijang seaweed harvesting experience, a surprise auction of Gijang seafood, barehanded live fish catching, and the Silver Song Festival.
Throughout the three-day festival, there will also be the festival's proud "free anchovy sashimi tasting event" and a "marine fireworks show," creating a festival filled with a wealth of sights and foods for people of all ages to enjoy.
Park Sanghyun, Chairman of the Gijang Anchovy Festival Promotion Committee, said, "As the festival is being held for the first time in two years, we have prepared a more diverse and abundant selection of foods and attractions than ever before. I hope you will visit the festival with your loved ones and family to create unforgettable memories."
Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "We will actively support the successful hosting of this year's Gijang Anchovy Festival, vigorously promote Gijang seafood, and continue the legacy of the nation's top seafood festival. I hope many people will visit the festival to taste Gijang anchovies, which boast the best flavor and quality in the country, and enjoy the exciting performances and events."
A committee official requested that, due to the 7th Gijang Sea Marathon being held on Sunday, April 27, there will be a complete traffic control around the Daebyeon Port festival site and nearby areas until 10:30 a.m. on that day. Therefore, tourists planning to visit the festival on April 27 are advised to come after 11 a.m. if possible.
