Truck Driven by Elderly Driver in His 80s Causes Fatal Accident in Muan, Pedestrian Killed Yonhap News

In Muan, South Jeolla Province, a truck driven by an elderly driver in his 80s veered onto the sidewalk and a crosswalk, resulting in one fatality and one injury.


According to the Muan Police Station on April 25, at around 12:51 p.m. the previous day, a 1-ton truck driven by Mr. A (80) collided with two parked vehicles in succession at an intersection in Muan-eup, Muan County.


The truck did not stop and continued forward, striking Mr. B, a pedestrian in his 70s who was crossing the crosswalk, and then Mr. C, a man in his 40s who was sitting in front of a nearby building.


As a result of the accident, Mr. B died, and Mr. C sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.


Police investigations found no evidence of drunk driving or driving without a license by Mr. A. The police believe the accident was caused by careless driving and have booked Mr. A on charges of causing death and injury under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents. They are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
