Lee Gukjong: "Dedication Alone Can't Sustain Military Healthcare"... Lee Junseok: "No Compromise on Matters of Life and Death"

Lee Gukjong: "Medical Policy Must Meet Global Standards"
Lee Junseok Promises Full Support During Visit to Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital

On the 24th, Lee Junseok, the presidential candidate of the Reform New Party, visited Lee Gukjong, director of the Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital, to discuss the current status of military medical infrastructure and promised, "I will spare no support as a presidential candidate." On this day, candidate Lee visited the Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital together with Chun Haram, acting party leader, and Lee Jooyoung, a member of the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee. Director Lee expressed his gratitude, saying, "You can only truly understand the situation by seeing it firsthand, so thank you for visiting." He, along with candidate Lee and the other lawmakers, boarded a fire department helicopter to participate in a demonstration of patient transport. He also explained the current state of military medical infrastructure and areas for improvement, including plans for remote medical treatment using drones.

Afterward, Director Lee said, "The landing site for the doctor helicopter must be within 50 meters of the emergency room to avoid missing the golden hour, but unlike other countries, we face many difficulties because the Building Act and the Aviation Act conflict with each other." He added, "At least in terms of medical policy, we must design it to meet global standards with professional expertise." Director Lee also stated, "The medical system cannot be maintained solely by the dedication of soldiers," and continued, "Doctors and soldiers are merely tools for implementing policy on the ground, but since treating them with care changes the outcomes, I hope society will listen more closely to the voices from the field."

In response to Director Lee's request, candidate Lee mentioned Private Kim Dohyun, who tragically died last year during training, stating, "It is clear that the military medical system needs improvement when it takes three hours after a 119 emergency call to transport by helicopter." He emphasized, "There can be no compromise or negotiation when it comes to matters of life and death." Acting leader Chun also stated, "We will provide sufficient support for innovative initiatives such as remote medical treatment using drones, so that soldiers do not have to pay out of pocket to learn to operate drones due to lack of budget."

Meanwhile, the Reform New Party emphasized that it would not join the so-called "big tent" proposed by Hong Junpyo, the presidential primary candidate of the People Power Party, to Lee Junseok, the Reform New Party's presidential candidate, stating, "The Reform New Party will not join the People Power Party's 'rebellion tent.'" Lee Donghoon, spokesperson for the Reform New Party's election campaign, issued a statement, saying, "Candidate Hong once again proposed a 'big tent' to candidate Lee today. Repeated calls for unification are now akin to stalking."

Spokesperson Lee pointed out, "The People Power Party is a party that shares responsibility with former President Yoon Sukyeol, who was judged by history for illegal martial law attempts and impeachment." He continued, "However, the People Power Party has never once offered a sincere apology for this. The Reform New Party and candidate Lee have neither reason nor intention to discuss unification with such a party." He added, "The People Power Party clings to the simplistic arithmetic that all votes will automatically be combined under the so-called 'anti-Lee Jaemyung coalition.' However, voter sentiment is not that simple." He further stated, "We remember how the People Power Party once drove candidate Lee out based on unfounded rumors and political exclusion. Now, for those who show an attitude of 'let's work together because we need you,' without even an apology, any further comment is a luxury."
