Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk conducted a joint emergency response drill involving both public officials and private citizens to prepare for disaster situations such as reservoir overflow and collapse caused by heavy rainfall.
Gyeongbuk Gimcheon City is conducting an emergency response drill simulating an actual disaster situation with village residents at Namgok Reservoir in Gammun-myeon.
The city announced on the 25th that it had carried out an emergency response drill simulating an actual disaster situation at Namgok Reservoir, located in Namgok-ri, Gammun-myeon, on the 23rd.
This drill was conducted in accordance with the Emergency Action Plan (EAP), which is mandatory for reservoirs with a capacity of over 200,000 tons under the Rural and Fishing Village Improvement Act. The purpose was to minimize casualties in the event of natural disasters such as heavy rainfall or typhoons, which could lead to reservoir overflow or embankment collapse.
On this day, approximately 50 participants?including Gimcheon Fire Station, Gimcheon Police Station, Gammun Police Substation, and local residents?took part in the drill. The exercise focused on procedures applied during actual disasters, including step-by-step disaster reporting (caution-alert-serious-termination), guiding residents to evacuate, and emergency embankment repairs.
Bae Jeonghyeon, Director of Construction and Safety at Gimcheon City, said, "We will do our utmost to proactively respond to various disasters through thorough monitoring and regular drills, and to protect the lives and property of our citizens."
