LH: "File Deleted Within Two Hours, Efforts Underway to Prevent Recurrence"
A large amount of customer information was leaked due to an employee error on 'Cheongyak Plus,' the rental and sales application site operated by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).
According to LH's Daejeon-Chungnam Regional Headquarters on April 24, at around 7 p.m. the previous day, LH published the list of applicants required to submit documents for the preliminary tenant recruitment for National Rental Housing at Blocks 7 and 15 in Tangjeong District 2, Asan, Chungnam. During this process, an employee in charge mistakenly uploaded a file containing personal information such as applicants' names, mobile phone numbers, application rankings, and scores, resulting in the leakage of personal information of approximately 1,100 applicants. LH became aware of the leak about two hours later and deleted the file. However, affected customers were not notified individually via text message about the data breach until 15 hours later, at midday on April 24.
The victims stated that anyone could download the leaked personal information file through the application website, and although significant damage was expected, LH did not provide accurate information about the details, circumstances, or impact of the breach.
An LH official explained, "Under the Personal Information Protection Act, we are required to notify victims within 72 hours, so we took action accordingly," adding, "We immediately deleted the file after identifying the leak and sent text message notifications to customers after confirming the details of the incident."
The official continued, "We will take measures to ensure smooth communication with affected customers. We apologize for the inconvenience," and added, "We will also do our best to establish measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring again."
