Financial Incident Worth 7.4 Billion KRW at Hana Bank... Financial Supervisory Service Launches Inspection

A financial incident involving approximately 7.4 billion KRW occurred at Hana Bank. In response, the Financial Supervisory Service has launched an ad hoc inspection.

According to the financial industry on April 24, Hana Bank disclosed on April 23 that a financial incident amounting to about 7.4 billion KRW had occurred due to improper loans, private lending, and the receipt of money and valuables.

According to Hana Bank and other sources, Employee A of Hana Bank was found to have excessively issued loans in the process of handling loan transactions from October 12, 2021, to December 26, 2024, by receiving false documents and other materials from loan clients and related parties.

The amount of improper loans is approximately 7,470,700,000 KRW. It was confirmed that Employee A received money and valuables from the relevant clients and related parties, and also privately lent money to them.

Hana Bank has currently placed the employee on standby and plans to proceed with additional personnel measures as well as criminal charges.

The Financial Supervisory Service, having been notified of the incident by Hana Bank, began an ad hoc inspection last week to determine the circumstances and the exact scale of the financial incident.

A Hana Bank representative stated, "Most of the incident amount is secured by collateralized loans, and we plan to make every effort to recover the delinquent loans through future real estate sales."
