Changwon Special City Begins Demolition of Fire-Damaged Buildings at Masan Fish and Fruit and Vegetable Markets Demolition of the fire-damaged building at Masan Fish Market and Fruit and Vegetable Market begins.

The affected buildings had been left unattended for a long period after the fire, resulting in decreased structural stability and becoming an eyesore, causing inconvenience to merchants and market visitors. The city had continuously requested demolition from the owner. Initially, the owner was reluctant due to concerns over demolition costs. However, after persistent persuasion and requests from both the city and the merchants' association, the owner ultimately agreed to proceed with demolition.

In particular, on February 7, the Masan Fish Market Merchants' Association delivered an appeal to the owner, requesting the prompt demolition of the fire-damaged buildings. This demolition can be seen as the result of these ongoing efforts between the public and private sectors.

The demolition is scheduled to take place over one week, from the 23rd to the 29th, with partial demolition being carried out on 23 out of the total 28 stores. Equipment such as aerial work platforms has been deployed, and on-site work is currently underway.

Lee Yujeong, head of the Regional Economy Division, stated, "This demolition marks the starting point for the normalization of Masan Fish Market and is an essential measure to ensure the safety of citizens and merchants," adding, "We will continue to strengthen fire prevention and response systems in the future."
