On April 22 and 23, Yeongyang County in North Gyeongsang Province hosted the "My Hometown Medical Volunteer Service," a social contribution activity by Asan Medical Center Seoul, at the Ilywol-myeon Welfare Center. The event provided free medical services to 150 residents of Yeongyang County.
The "My Hometown Medical Volunteer Service" involves staff from Asan Medical Center Seoul visiting their hometowns to offer free medical care. The initiative began when Professor Cho Younggeol of the Department of Microbiology at Asan Medical Center Seoul recommended Ilywol-myeon in Yeongyang County, his hometown. In collaboration with the hospital's social welfare team, the Yeongyang County Public Health Center, and the Ilywol-myeon Office, a small clinic was set up in Ilywol-myeon.
The medical services included family medicine and radiology. To ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment, ultrasound examinations, X-rays, and blood, urine, and electrocardiogram tests were conducted. In particular, immune-boosting nutrient infusions were administered to elderly residents with weakened immune systems, providing significant help in restoring their physical and mental well-being.
Park, a grandmother from Dogye-ri who received treatment that day, expressed her gratitude, saying, "It is not easy to visit a hospital due to the busy farming season and the inconvenience of distance, but I am truly thankful that you came directly to our village to provide medical care."
County Governor Oh Dochang stated, "I am deeply grateful to Asan Medical Center Seoul for coming directly to our county, which is medically underserved, to provide volunteer medical services."
